Middle English literature

The term Middle English literature refers to the [literature] written in the form of the English language known as Middle English, from approximately 1066, the date of the the Norman Conquest, up until the 1470s, when the Chancery Standard, a form of London-based English, became widespread and the printing press regularized the language. During this period of English literature, Geoffrey Chaucer wrote The Canterbury Talesthe Pearl Poet wrote Sir Gawain and the Green KnightWilliam Langland wrote Piers Plowman, and many morality plays and miracle playswere produced. Sidrak and Bokkus is an example of late Middle English literature.
